So many people have unwanted brown spots and freckles on their skin. Often times, brown spots or other hyper-pigmentation appear on the backs of hands, or on the face. Regardless of where the spots appear, they can make you look older and feel less attractive.

How Does It Work?

The Medlite Laser works by pulsing a concentrated beam of light onto the target area. The light beam breaks up the pigmentation causing it to literaly disappear right before your eyes. Lasers used to treat brown spots work in one of two ways. Either with an acoustical effect or with a thermal effect. Think of the acoustical effect as a speaker playing so loudly that a glass breaks. Well, the pigmentation is the glass and the laser is the loud speaker. With a thermal effect, the pigmentation is broken apart by concentrated heat. Some Medlite systems, have both acoustic and thermal properties and are thus very effective at reducing brown spots.

What to expect?

First, and as always, Dr. Rotter will have to establish that you are a suitable candidate for this procedure. For most brown spots and hyperpigmentation, there are no issues. The doctor will numb the area to be treated, and then apply the pulsed laser. The treatment is very fast, but varies in time depending on how large the target area is. For small patches or just a few spots, the treatmet is over in a few minutes. There is very little pain, but you may experience some very mild stinging during the treatment.

What is Recovery Like?

With the Medlite Laser, brown spots will typically take on a white appearance after the treatment. The light areas fade back to regular skin tones usually in a few days. The effect of the treatment is very mild and usually can be easily covered by simple makeup and is only necessary for a day or two.
