The Center for Skin Surgery - Your Answer for Skin Cancer

A DIAGNOSIS OF SKIN CANCER (such as Basal Cell Carcinoma or Squamous Cell Carcinoma) can be frightening and leave us with many unanswered questions. Skin cancer can be disfiguring and life threatening. Mohs Micrographic Surgery can improve your situation by removing all cancerous cells and minimizing scarring.

(RECOVERY TIME: SEVEN DAYS)

This state-of-the-art procedure uses a microscope to trace the skin cancer and ensure that all of it is removed - even the roots. Dr. Rotter removes the entire visible tumor and leaves the normal skin alone. In our office lab, the tissue is marked and prepared for examination.

Dr. Rotter uses a microscope to examine 100% of the margins (typically, labs and hospitals only look at 1% of the margins). If he finds any cancer, he can precisely map the location and remove more tissue. This process is repeated until the margins are clear. This examination and mapping procedure allows Dr. Rotter to precisely locate and remove all cancer cells while preserving normal tissue.

Mohs surgery has the highest cure rate of all methods, up to 99 percent. As the most exacting means of removal, this surgery carries the lowest chance of regrowth and gives the best cosmetic result.

Each stage of the surgery only takes minutes to perform; however, the patient will be in the office for one to four hours. Tylenol can help relieve any discomfort. Once the cancer is removed, Dr. Rotter uses his expertise to reconstruct the area and return it to its normal appearance.
